Handel would have been on the hit parade during Mary’s teens.  Cantatas would have provided upbeat melodies in the tea parties she attended.  She may have played them herself on a descant recorder being a well educated girl.  It must be amazing to listen to what we now call classical music as though it is a novelty and essentially what we call pop music today.  Handel, Dowland and Arne for Mary are all top of the pops!
