At home. Walworth Road.  Worth it.

One of my favourite theatrical experiences has been sitting in the Cottesloe theatre in London watching Enda Walsh’s ‘Walworth Road’.  It is a play that defies description.  Having enjoyed it beyond one inch of its life, it was a rare treat to find myself for the first time walking up the road (above) that inspired it.  Walsh depicts the Road before the redevelopments.  Yes deluxe serviced student accommodation and concierge glass and chrome apartments are well on their way to being completed all along this South East London road.  I grabbed a shot of some bricks and mortar that are very much old school to show the fabric of its history.  I hope they can keep some of the brickwork in tact.  It is our heritage.  And if not well we have Enda Walsh’s genius to tell us how it is.  Was.  Or actually walking along it today still very much is.  The Walworth Road is a community and long may it thrive.  Its cafes, libraries and shops are buzzing with life and made me feel alive, welcome and at home.  Like Walsh’s play.
