Breaking through metal barriers three twenty somethings lurch off Magdalen Bridge to celebrate May morning (6.00am 1.4.11) to take a dip in the river Cherwell. It’s a daring drop from an old bridge. The river bottom is made up of old bicycles and the water level low. Serious injuries result in hitching an ambulance home but this years revelers are not rushing out of the bracing Cherwell. The geese give them a wide birth and everyone else joins in the chorus. The choir from Magdalen College School welcome in Spring with a song from the tower. With the Oak blossoming before the Ash in nearby Angel and Greyhound meadow it is a welcome melody as nature portends we are in for a splashing good Summer!
