Follow the concrete steps down into the heart of the Oxford Mound.  Inside there is dark well at the bottom of which horse skeletons and skulls have been unearthed.  The chamber itself is ornate with norman carving but the tiny space falls in on you as you stand there.  This gate here is the entry to the Norman past.  Swings into the great new show this week at our local theatre.  Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Communicating Doors’ plays tonight and has enjoyed a good run at the Oxford Playhouse.  The premise is a hotel room door that when pushed takes you into the past, present or future.  As always Ayckbourn excels in building up the doom from domestic settings with a lightening bolt twist at the end.  Lisa Goddard stars in a stellar cast to thunderous applause.
