Oxford feels like the city of lost causes as Charles I make the city his capital to fight Cromwell from stripping the colleges of their silver ware only to find himself later beheaded by his enemies.  This tower housed the protestant martyrs Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley who were later burnt at the stake on Broad St for their faith at the hands of the Catholic Queen Mary in 1555.
