stable times

This entrance to the Royal Pavilion in Brighton is close to Edward Street and would have lead towards the wine cellars.  These doors are said to have been open during air raid warnings for locals to shelter from the bombs.  The stables of the Pavilion had previously been used as a military hospital during World War One where Indian soldiers were treated.  Today the Pavilion is a place of joyful leisure where birdsong and laughter rings in the air.  The intrusive racket of a siren is thankfully hard to imagine.  Although seventy years ago it was rumoured Hitler would like to have made the Pavilion an operational base should Operation Sea Lion have been successful.
