Two gallows trees

a forest is needed to hang all of the inmates found in the Oxford Gaol Calendar.  A hundred years separate Anne Green and Mary Blandy’s hangings and the tightening of the screws in Oxford’s Medieval gaol is palpable in that time with Anne Green walking off the gallows scot free and Mary protesting her innocence unable to get her letter to the King on time.  Justice seems to be progressing in a backwards manner between 1650 and 1750.  But then Anne Green may have found freedom due to slipping the noose she returns home to a political regime run by Cromwell.  Arguably she jumps out of the fat and into the fire.
