row your (blue) boat

The annual Oxford and Cambridge boat race - first ran in Henley - kicks off in an hour.  The race was so popular it was swiftly moved to Westminster so more folk could see it.  The following year it moved to the leafier starting point of Putney where there is arguably less sewage being pumped out into the water.  The cox of the winning team will be thrown in the River Thames so this is handy knowledge.  Hope she or he does not take a mouthful.  The champagne on the winners podium looks a much brighter prospect to imbibe.

This year congratulations go to the Oxford Crew!  After the shock of last years defeat (overtaken in the dying moments), the dark blue boat wins by three lengths after some impressive coxing.

The Oxford Ladies went on to win head of the river later at Henley.
