and they’re off

Had a great day at the races well on the front of Brighton Pier.  I’m staring at coloured horses spinning around and around.  I pick up a new script on my email from cast member Kara Spriggs as I watch the glitter ball lights flash overhead.  I enjoy the metaphor in Kara’s work that draws on a child colouring in.  However, the racing colours of the trapped horses circling around me make for an endless stream of competition as the ride goes on and on and no one reaches the end.  Feels a bit like writing.  I brought a draft of the play ‘Churchill’s Children’ to chew over on the pier with a fresh pencil.  I read some out to the starlings but they never stay in the same spot long enough to get any metaphor!  Fresh eyes make for a better redraft and so the playwriting wheel keeps turning.  Wishing you a creative time from the South Coast.  Wish you were here?
