Why call it Boxing Day?
TV joke – because you are knee deep in boxes!
Here in the valleys of South Wales there is a Welsh soap opera called ‘Pobol y Cwm’ which reflects the problems of the valleys through the people who live there. Much of the small local stories come from a feeling of being hemmed in geographically and sometimes culturally.
Tiny problems often escalate to full on felonies. This feels like Mary’s soap opera as she cannot leave an area bounded by water only to commit a crime that her love forced her to.
Another similar S4C TV channel show is ‘Diwedd y Byd’. Think I’m watching too much TV this Boxing day. Let’s not even talk about Welsh rugby… Iechydd da!
