the west is the best

In the 1960’s if you were queuing for a train to leave this Friedrichstrasse railway station in Berlin you were heading to the West.  The station is firmly in the old East and it’s now dated 70’s chic must have been dressed to impressed the city’s visitors who were now perhaps keen to leave leaving only their loved ones behind.  The feeling of being torn apart lies in the air of this station and a girl came up to me as I took the photo asking where the nearest police station was yet she seemed calm.  There was no alarm so I took the foto and marvelled at anyone who would be impressed by this architecture.  It is trying its best through limited sources of inspiration.  The old East still hangs on to its isolation. Mary must have felt like East Berlin sitting in her condemned cell waiting for visitors then wondering when they would leave and if this was her final goodbye to them.  Equally as it was in Friedrichstrasse railway station pre 1990’s.
